Binny's Tasting Panel: Non-Alcoholic Beer, Wine and Spirits Extravaganza

NA beverages are hot these days; from the exploding mocktail trend using carefully crafted faux spirits, to well-hopped craft IPAs and creamy nitrogen infused Irish stout doppelgängers to sophisticated aromatic white wines and nose tickling sparklers.

Dry January has become an annual event, and consumption is on the rise year-round. Many have decided to take an occasional break from alcohol or perhaps moderate their consumption by adding in an NA or two while partying with friends or just try to stay hydrated in the summer sun. Of course, some simply want to enjoy a complex, satisfying beverage when alcohol isn’t called for. Whatever the reason, we have you covered with the lowest prices on the Midwest’s most extensive selection of carefully curated NA beverages for your drinking pleasure.

Recently we convened a special Binny’s NA Tasting Panel featuring our most ardent supporters of the category from across the Binny’s universe. We tasted dozens of products from every category. Participants were excited by the prospect of trying so many options side-by-side, enthusiastically assigning each product a score on a ten-point scale. When the scores were tallied, we had solid lists of our top ten NA wines, beers and spirits. Here are the results:

Top Ten NA Spirits

Although non-alcoholic spirits entered the booze-free scene after beer and wine, they’ve quickly caught up, driven by a surge of innovation and a growing wave of interest. Now you can find everything from gin and tequila, rum and whiskey, even more esoteric categories like red Italian bitters and coffee liqueurs have non- alcoholic alternatives. Many brands are even producing non-alcoholic canned cocktails that can be poured over ice for easy enjoyment. Visit your local Binny's and experience all there is to offer in the world of non-alcoholic spirit alternatives.

Top Ten NA Beers

For most of its existence, the non-alcoholic beer market was dominated by a handful of producers that primarily focused on pale lagers. Within the last few years, everything changed. Scientific advances in brewing practices combined with an influx of interest in the category resulted in a surge of new breweries, along with a variety of new styles. Binny’s is proud to offer an extensive selection of NA beers, spanning the spectrum from juicy IPA to roasty porter and stout, along with some refreshing NA cider and hop water to boot.

Top Ten NA Wines

There has long been NA wine available at Binny’s but in recent years, as interest and demand has grown and grown, there are more producers taking what used to be a niche market very seriously. The quality of the base wines has vastly improved and the use of gentle, low temperature vacuum distillation with sophisticated spinning cones allows for the removal of alcohol while preserving the volatile aroma and flavor nuances that once would have been lost. It’s a new era in NA wine that boasts not just flavorful high-quality wine, but wine-based NA cocktails. There has never been a better time to be an NA consumer for both quality and choice.
