Binny's Home Bartender: The Velvet Fog

Like an overlooked present hiding behind the tree or a wonderful trinket in the toe of your stocking, the surprise of the day was truly unexpected. It wasn’t a wine, per se, but a delightful low-alcohol wine-based cocktail, stirred up by Portage Park Wine Manager, Jamie.

A riff on the Adonis, a classic Sherry cocktail, this super simple preparation wowed WOB with its complexity, drinkability and wonderful holiday aromatics. It’s a perfect substitute for a Manhattan, if you are looking to serve something with a little less oomph without sacrificing flavor. A must try!

“At this time of year, I love pairing delicious wines with what I'll be serving at my table but why not start or finish with a cocktail?

In honor of crooner Mel Torme, who co-wrote and often sang The Christmas Song, we present: The Velvet Fog. A lovely drink to enjoy while there are chestnuts roasting on an open fire.”

- Jamie, Wine Manager Portage Park
