Hopewell’s latest lager was designed with food pairing potential in mind. Enjoying beer alongside great food is a time-honored tradition at the “pojangmacha” Korean street food market. Unlike many Asian style lagers that are made with rice, Pocha is an all-malt brew, resulting in a richer and more rounded mouthfeel and finish. It’s impeccably balanced and refreshingly crisp, making it an excellent complement to a wide variety of dishes. It offers an herbaceous hop cut that freshens up the palate alongside richer Korean dishes like beef Bulgogi and fried chicken sauced with gochujang.

In 1972, Anchor Brewing released the first porter in America since prohibition. Their take on this classic English style was robust in character, featuring a generous helping on American hops. Anchor’s uniquely American take in turn inspired countless craft brewers, including Sierra Nevada. First released in 1980, it’s one of Sierra Nevada’s oldest recipes. We’re excited to announce that we secured a small batch of this iconic American porter. That’s right, My Cousin Binny is back! For this edition we sat down with our friends at Maplewood and turned our sights to across the pond to craft a French-style Pilsner. For the hop bill we combined the classic French hop Strisselspalt with Alsatian grown Fuggle hops. A true testament to the influence of terroir, this iconic English hop varietal takes on a unique character when grown in Alsace, imparting lovely floral and spicy notes. For the malt bill we incorporated Sugar Creek’s French Pilsner malt. It’s a mixture of two different barleys with French parentage, both grown and malted at Sugar Creek Malt Co. in Boone Country Indiana. Sparkling golden in color, the nose here is fresh and floral, with a bright streak of minerality. Medium in body, the Sugar Creek French pilsner malt imparts a rounded and bready malt character with a subtle touch of honey. The invigorating finish is spicy and herbaceous, with lingering notes of thyme, lemon peel, cinnamon, and mint. This food friendly pilsner is a perfect match alongside the charcuterie tray. Over the years we’ve tried a lot of cherry beers and Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Cherry Stout is one of the best we’ve ever tasted. A labor of love, this beer begins with their iconic bourbon barrel aged stout, which spends 12 months resting in barrels. After this year in oak, 75 pounds of tart cherries from Door Country are added to each barrel. A secondary fermentation takes place in barrel, and the finished brew is nothing short of breathtaking. It’s been quite some time since we last spotted this Wisconsin gem - make sure to grab some before it’s gone.
Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Aged Cherry Stout
Pouring a deep shade of amber with garnet highlights, the nose here is bright and spirited, with the combination of bourbon and cherry bringing to mind the aroma of an Old Fashioned cocktail with a dusting of cocoa. Medium-full in body, it glides effortlessly across the tongue, with chocolatey malt character giving way to the tangy dark fruit character of tart cherries. A nod to the stouts of yore, this well fermented stout is leaner than thick pastry stouts that dot today’s shelves. The bright acidity of tart cherry provides a refreshing lift that makes this richly flavored stout dangerously drinkable; given it clocks in at a whopping 11% ABV.
Heavy metal legends Iron Maiden have been rocking for five decades! To celebrate this milestone, they’ve teamed up with Lagunitas. Lead singer Bruce Dickinson, yes the Bruce Dickinson, played a hands on role in designing Trooper IPA. He sat down with Lagunitas legend Jeremy Marshall, and their finished brew is a West Coast IPA that delivers a barrage of modern hop flavors and some old school hop fury. So dust off the vinyl of Live After Death, crack open a can and through some horns in the air!

If you’re missing old school IPAs with some caramelized malt character, Hop Prism Red delivers. Salty, sour, and spicy - welcome to the wild side of the craft beer scene. Gose, pronounced “Go-zuh”, is an obscure German beer style that nearly disappeared, but was resurrected by American craft brewers. It’s a sessionable sour beer that’s spiced with coriander. The oddest, and arguably defining characteristic of Gose, is that it’s brewed with salt. As such, this makes it a natural base for pickle beer! We’ve seen an influx of pickle beers as of late, but the spicy offering from Destihl is one of the standouts on the shelf. Desthil’s tart and citrusy gose blends marvelously with SuckerPunch’s signature 11 spice pickle brine.
