The first glass seems extremely overpowering. Later I did enjoy it but not as much as the other scotches in the price range.

One of my "go to malts". I always have a bottle on hand. I felt compelled to write this after reading a review below recommending Balvenie over this classic Islay. That is like comparing Harp to Guiness my friend. It should not be done. Balvenie is very good but completely different. The beauty of Scotch is that through geography, culture, skill and passion so many diverse and excellent whiskys are achieved. Laphroig reflects it's unique origins through smoke, peat, sea salt and iodine in remarkable balance. It is a true classic and whether you prefer it over others or not, it is a malt to be savored and simply not to be missed. Slainte!

This is one of my everyday, go-to bottles of scotch. Lots of peat and smoke flavor, and it can be a little harsher and more aggressive than other scotches... so it may not be for everyone.

On the nose, salt air, with a smoky medicinal quality. Peat smoke pervades, with some vanilla/nougat in the background. On the palate, strong peat smoke, iodine, and oily salt water. The finish is smoky, with some seaweed, along with sweet toasted oats and charred wood.

This is a remarkable example of Islay peat-influenced malt whisky...the signature Islay malt at this price point. It may be used as a standard of comparison for all other Islay malts. Very well-balanced. It’s more than just peat-smoke. There are other flavors in the mix, making it complex and very memorable.
