Papantonis Agiorgitiko Meden Agan 2011

750 ml
Case of 12

The 2011 Agiorgitiko Meden Agan was aged in French oak for 14 months in a mixture of new and old barrels (one-third new and the other two-thirds divided evenly between used and older barrels). It comes in at 13% alcohol. This has become an increasingly charming bottling that seems rather consistent. Layered with a bit too much vanilla early on, it is nonetheless flavorful and nicely structured, tightening on the finish with aeration and showing grip and persistence. Just for fun, I held it open another hour. It blossomed, pulling in the oak, becoming silky, fresh and more interesting. Full-bodied for the grape, this shows just beautifully, bursting with flavor, demonstrating finesse and the ability to age a bit. It is a very nice value with a Burgundian feel. It is approachable now, but it will benefit from a year or so of cellaring. - Mark Squires, #215, Oct 2014
