Over the past few years, several breweries have battled to claim the title of the worlds strongest beer. Perhaps none more famous than the rivalry between Germanys Schorschbräu and Scottlands BrewDog. Germanys Schorschbräu Brewery remains committed to consistent production of monstrous brews, the strongest of which clocks in at over 100 proof!
Proudly adhering to the German Purity Law, Schorschbräu uses only barley malt, water, hops and yeast to brew an obscure German style known as Eisbock. Eisbock or Icebock undergoes a unique process where a rich hearty bock beer is partially frozen and ice crystals are removed. This practice not only bumps up the alcohol but magnifies all the rich flavors and makes for an aromatic and flavorful brew. Binnys is proud to sell some of the very limited supply of these special brews.
SchorschBock Ice 13%
Pours light amber in color with a nice fruity aroma reminiscent of apples. Very malty but still somewhat balanced, with a touch of pepper on the finish.
SchorschBock Ice 20%
Darker in color with a roasted malt and honey on the nose. Mouthfeel is incredibly creamy and reminds us of toffee and chocolate covered raisins. The amazingly rich finish seems to last forever.
SchorschBock Ice 30%
A swirl of the glass leaves lasting long legs that reminds us we are delving into a strange unknown between the world of spirits and beer. Bursting with flavors ranging from caramelized peaches to candied bacon with a long spicy finish.
SchorschBock Ice 43%
Pours deep amber in color with aromas of raisins, plums and figs. Incredibly malty with sweet caramel and vinous port wine giving way to big warming finish. If the thought of putting down an entire bottle of 43% abv seems daunting fret not. Schorschbräu assures us these massive brews can be enjoyed weeks after opening. To do so, we recommend picking up another feat of German engineering the Hermetus Bottle Resealer
to provide a nice airtight seal.
SchorschBock Ice 57%
Last but not least, the strongest of them all. The beer that bested BrewDogs by clocking in at 57% alcohol by volume! Each bottle of this extremely limited batch of 300 is hand numbered. Incredibly aromatic with ripe peaches and PX sherry on the nose. More akin to brandy than beer, its decadent and fruity with a long vibrant finish.
