Binny's Top 10 of 2014

Henriot Brut Souverain and Eagle Rare Bourbon#1 Henriot Brut Souverain

I have a new favorite with Henriot. It's bright with flavors of lemon and apricot followed by creaminess and a tickle of fine bubbles. This is perfect on Christmas Eve with dinner, but I'll pop the cork now and then to just enjoy a good bubbly with friends. As Champagne goes, this is a great value for exceptional quality. - Nancy K, Wine Consultant at Binny's Champaign

#2 Eagle Rare 10 Year Old Single Barrel

In terms of value, where else can you find a ten year old at this price? Very few can compare with Eagle Rare's heartier, more robust, spicier character. Not as sweet as, say, Elmer T Lee, Eagle Rare is fat and rich and not too bitter, and wears its rye on its sleeve. Right now we have plenty of Binny's Handpicked bottles, too. - Mike H, Assistant Store Manager at Binny's Skokie

Deschutes Fresh Squeezed and Smith & Hook Cabernet#3 Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA

A great, perfectly balanced IPA. Citra and Mosaic hops give it a healthy citrus flavor without going overboard into fruity. At $9.99 a six-pack, look for these on shelves, in the cooler, and on the Craft Your Own 6 Pack! - Alison S, Beer Consultant at Binny's Naperville

#4 Smith & Hook 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon

A smooth, complex cabernet from the Cental Coast, Smith & Hook is a fantastic find for under twenty dollars. Sweet tannins balanced with complexity including spice notes, plums and a long finish. Enjoyable with hearty food, a good book, or just cuddling. - Ray L, Wine Consultant at Binny's Arlington Heights

Room 101 Payback and Hakushu 12 Year Old#5 Room 101 Big Payback Chavela 5x50

A great stick for the price, with black pepper and dark coffee notes along with a creamy and woody texture. Its medium body makes it versatile and enjoyable. - Pablo T, Cigar Consultant at Binny's Willowbrook

#6 Suntory Hakushu 12

The Hakushu from Suntory is considered the producer's 'fresh' whiskey. This is from the fresh pine nose on this single malt with the citrus taste followed by a dry and lingering hard pressed green tea finish. One of the most beautiful distilleries in Japan. - Joe W, Receiver at Binny's Bolingbrook

Graham's 20 Year Old and Vander Mill Totally Roasted#7 Graham's 20 Year Old Tawny Port

Ripe raspberries give way to notes of mocha and dark chocolate. Nice lengthy, and layered finish starting with caramel and ending, minutes later, with candied apple. A wonderfully sophisticated dessert wine to experience in a t shirt and jeans. Enjoy! - Amanda P, Wine Consultant at Binny's Des Plaines

#8 Vander Mill Totally Roasted Cider

Remember that kiosk in the mall that sold cinnamon roasted pecans, the one you could smell before you could see? Now imagine drinking that in a well balanced, crisp apple cider. Yeah. Its heaven. - Caitlin O, Bartender at Binny's Lincoln Park Tasting Room

Double Cross Vodka and Jadot Pernand-Verglesses Clos de la Croix de Pierre#9 Double Cross Vodka

One of the smoothest vodkas in the U.S market. Distilled in Slovakia, only for the U.S, this vodka I enjoy just on the rocks with a lime. Right now it comes in a gift set with two rocks glasses, too. - Joe K, Cigar Consultant at Binny's Bloomingdale

#10 Louis Jadot 2012 Pernand Vergelesses Clos de la Croix de Pierre

This chardonnay from Burgundy shows the complexity and finesse that makes white Burgundy unique. With a mineral aroma and fine tension on the palate, it's a great example of what the region can produce. - Gregory F, Wine Consultant at Binny's Hyde Park
