Binny’s in Bloomingdale: Beer Department Report

About a week from today, one of the biggest beer departments in the Midwest will open its doors.  Mixed in with the over 1,500 different beers at our Bloomingdale location will be some rarities.  Available from Stone Brewing Co. will be 2007 Double Bastard, 2008 Imperial Russian Stout, 2010 Old Guardian, 14th Anniversary Emperial IPA, and the 2008 Vintage of their holiday collaboration with Nogne O and Jolly Pumpkin.  Look for these vintage Stone Brewing Co. ales in the single serve section of the beer cooler.  Did we mention that the beer cooler at this Binny’s location has 28 doors?

Other gems and hard to find beers will be mixed in the beer set here, including but not limited to beers from breweries like De Molen, Brewdog, Nogne O, and HaandBryggeriet.

Of course all of the everyday favorites will be available too.

  1. Will I be able to get Half Acre product without having to schlepp all the way to Schaumburg, or the South Loop locations? It is tragic for the locations in Glen Ellyn and Downers Grove that cannot get Daisy Cutter or Over Ale…Could you find it within you considerable influence to get a distributor to service these fine locations…Your existing locations need your support.

  2. This is not true, the way liquor and beer are distributed in this state is through a … “process” where each distributor gets an exclusive territory to distribute alcohol. So if you have a product that you would like to sell to consumers in Illinois, you must go through a distributor licensed by the state, who has control over what brands they will sell, if they do not want to carry your brand then you will not receive product. This is the situation with Downers Grove and Glen Ellyn.

  3. right … but if a producer like half acre can’t make enough beer to supply a larger area, then new distributors aren’t going to get any, even if they do want it

  4. don’t think half acre’s lack of availability is a distributor issue, they just don’t have production up enough to increase distribution right now. they talked about it on their blog a couple months ago

  5. Greg: Deschutes Brewing Company does not distribute their beers in the Chicago area; we would love to have them if they ever decide to bring their beers here.Big Al: The same goes for Russian River as Deschutes. As far as Racer X goes, it is a draft only selection that is a true rarity.

  6. I’ve been looking for Dundee Oktoberfest beer for a year. I was in your store a week ago and you said it wasn’t in yet. Is it in now?

  7. Bill, currently Dundee Oktoberfest is available in only a few of our stores. May I ask which Binny’s is your local one so we can put you in contact with the beer buyer there? Thanks.
