"The 2006 I Sodi di San Niccolo is fabulous. Beautifully delineated aromatics meld into a breathtaking array of dark fruit, crushed rocks, smoke, tar, minerals and flowers in this totally thrilling Tuscan red. The fruit completely saturates the palate, while persistent notes of crushed rocks and all things mineral round things out. I love the way Malvasia Nera confers darkness, richness and power to the Sangioveto, but without abandoning a pure-bred Tuscan expression of sheer class. I Sodi has a track record of developing beautifully in bottle and I have no doubt that will be the case here."

Antinori Santa Cristina Toscano Rosso

"Ruby red in color with purple hues. On the nose, the wine shows intense notes of red fruit, of cherries, blueberries, and black currants. The palate is well-balanced and complex, with sweet tannins and the ripe red fruit notes flavors lingering on the finish."

2010 Isole e Olena Cepparello

"The extraordinary 2010 Cepparello (100% Sangiovese aged up to 18 months in oak, one-third new) presents fine nuances of red berry, cherry, spice, tar, licorice, wet earth and forest leaf. The bouquet is very elegant but this wine delivers power too with tight structure that immediately wraps around the palate. Somewhere in the crossroads between tradition and modernity, Cepparello is a stunning wine."

2009 Jacopo Biondi Santi Rosso di Montalcino

"Vivid red. Perfumed aromas of redcurrant, sour red cherry and licorice. The bright and pure flavors very similar to the aromas are nicely extended on the back by harmonious acids. The long and crisp finish offers mineral nuances for added complexity. Archetypal Sangiovese, a wine that couldn't be farther removed from all those buffoon-esque black as ink, spicy, tarry, inky, and bell peppery behemoths that were once very common in Montalcino."
