Item #67071
Size: 750ml
Type: Red Wine
Varietal: Zinfandel
Country: United States
Region: California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley

"This Zinfandel comes primarily from our Primitivo-clone vineyard planted next to the winery. We favor the Primitivo-clone because it tends to produce berries that are smaller and with thicker skins, versus typical Zinfandel selections. This leads to a richer wine with more tannin, which is usually found in old vine Zin. Weekly barrel stirring during malolactic helped build a smooth mouthfeel. We co-fermented Petite Sirah with the Zinfandel for color stability and tannic structure We then opted to blend in Mourve`dre for its spicy character and Barbera for acidity."

2011 Quivira Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley

"The rich hue of Quivira's Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel leaves the impression that this is going to be a big powerful Zin, but you quickly discover the wine is well-behaved. A brambly, berry-driven Zinfandel that delivers not only classic Dry Creek flavors of raspberries, but also wonderful boysenberry and plum notes accented by a good dose of baking spices and just a touch of oak."

2012 Ridge Zinfandel East Bench

"Ruby red, with savory and exotic hints on the palate. High notes of lavender-laced red raspberries explode from the glass, with baking spices and chocolate base notes framing the fruit. A remarkable wine of place - the vineyard from where the Ridge sources the fruit for this cuvee is high atop a benchland, and therefore displays the more red fruit notes that Zinfandel can display should the vines enjoy higher elevations. A wine that can vie with any terroir-driven wine from France."

2011 Ridge Lytton Springs

"The 2011 Lytton Springs is an intriguing wine. It is at once quite tannic, but also medium in body, as most wines are in this vintage. The structure of Petite Sirah is felt in the wine’s tannin. Dusty red cherries, flowers and sweet herbs wrap around the finish. There is a translucency to the 2011 that is highly appealing. In 2011, only 50% of candidate parcels were used in the final blend. The 2011 is 82% Zinfandel, 16% Petite Sirah and 2% Carignane."
