Type: Red Wine
Varietal: Zinfandel
Country: United States
Region: California, Sonoma County, Dry Creek Valley

"This Zinfandel comes primarily from our Primitivo-clone vineyard planted next to the winery. We favor the Primitivo-clone because it tends to produce berries that are smaller and with thicker skins, versus typical Zinfandel selections. This leads to a richer wine with more tannin, which is usually found in old vine Zin. Weekly barrel stirring during malolactic helped build a smooth mouthfeel. We co-fermented Petite Sirah with the Zinfandel for color stability and tannic structure We then opted to blend in Mourve`dre for its spicy character and Barbera for acidity."

2012 Ridge Zinfandel East Bench

"Ruby red, with savory and exotic hints on the palate. High notes of lavender-laced red raspberries explode from the glass, with baking spices and chocolate base notes framing the fruit. A remarkable wine of place - the vineyard from where the Ridge sources the fruit for this cuvee is high atop a benchland, and therefore displays the more red fruit notes that Zinfandel can display should the vines enjoy higher elevations. A wine that can vie with any terroir-driven wine from France."

2011 Seghesio Zinfandel Old Vine

"Deeply perfumed aromas of dark berries and old vine Zin’s intrinsic briary spiciness. Layered bright fruit flavors reminiscent of a rich berry pie with a toasted crust Old vine Zinfandel’s complex spice undertones. Low yields in the vineyard preserved the vibrant natural acidity and balanced tannins. Long, persistent finish."
