"Bright gold. Intensely perfumed aromas of orange pith, pear and anise, with slow-building spiciness and a touch of salty minerality. Vibrant, finely etched citrus and orchard fruit flavors expand and deepen with air, picking up a sexy florality. The brisk finish features a strong jolt of melon and a touch of iodine."

2011 Walter Hansel Chardonnay North Slope

"The 2011 Chardonnay North Slope is one of the most reticent wines in this lineup. There is quite a bit of density and richness in the fruit, but the wine still needs another 6-12 months to come together, which is not unusual for Hansel’s Chardonnays. Today, the North Slope is mostly about potential, and there certainly seems to be plenty of that here. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2018."

2012 Nickel and Nickel Chardonnay Stiling

"The 2012 Stiling Chardonnay has beautiful floral and Muscat aromas with a hint of flint and stone. Its elegant balance of floral, Muscat, apple and Meyer lemon are wrapped in toasty French oak. A vibrant acidity wets the appetite but this combination of flavor and acidity makes this wine the perfect match with food."

2011 Pahlmeyer Chardonnay Sonoma Coast

"I was quite taken with the wines I tasted from Pahlmeyer this year. The 2011 Chardonnay is gorgeous. Layers of lemon pastry, juicy peaches, butter and spices take shape in the glass. The 2011 is a bit restrained for Pahlmeyer, but all the elements are very nicely woven together. There is plenty of varietal character and house style, but in a slightly more reserved way than readers have become accustomed to over the years, mostly because of the cool growing season. This is a beautiful and classy wine through and through."
