"The nose reveals layers of fresh berries, dried cherry, and violets that mingle with warming spices, vanilla, cocoa, and a touch of anise. On the palate this merlot is creamy on entry, exhibits a velvety mid palate, and a lengthy finish drawn out by seamlessly integrated tannin and a vibrant, lively acidity. Initial flavors consist of fresh and dried fruits- cherry and raspberry- which are complimented by vanilla and spice, and, finally, cocoa powder on the finish."

"The 2012 demonstrates everything one can ask for from a classic Merlot. Pretty, red-fruited aromas and flavors with the trademark touches of damp earth and sage. This wine also has that defining Merlot mouthfeel, one that balances tenderness and authority making this the perfect candidate for either tonight’s dinner of roasted chicken or a decade of sleeping in the cellar."

2011 Duckhorn Merlot

"The cooler 2011 vintage yielded an aromatic Merlot with vibrant red fruit layers of Rainier cherry and spiced plum, as well as notes of licorice, tobacco leaf, cardamom and thyme. Hints of cedar, leather and savory spice from aging in French oak barrels contribute depth and nuance, while a streak of uplifting acidity adds dimension to this wine’s smooth velvety texture. Dusty tannins frame a sophisticated finish."
