"The 2008 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is incredibly fine in this vintage, probably because of the addition of a new Riserva from this vineyard into the lineup. Dark red fruit, flowers, mint and spices flow from this graceful, refined Barolo. It will be interesting to see where the 2008 goes from here. I can’t say the 2008 is a very typical Bric del Fiasc because it is more finesse than power, but it is a very beautiful wine just the same."

2010 Paolo Scavino Barolo Monvigliero

"A round, supple Barolo, the 2010 Barolo Monvigliero is beautifully expressive. Today the Monvigliero is incredibly primary and intense, especially in its fruit, while the typical Monvigliero notes aren't fully developed. The 2010 is going to need some time to come together, but it is a beauty. With time in the glass some of the more floral and savory notes that are typical of this site begin to emerge, but only with great reluctance. Today the Monvigliero impresses for its texture, silkiness and exceptional overall balance."

"Intense scents of rose, wisteria, red berry, herbs and baking spices take center stage. The vibrant palate seamlessly weaves together red cherry, black raspberry, cinnamon, clove and mint, with a blast of orange peel on the finish. Velvety tannins make this tempting now but it also shows aging potential."

2010 Azelia Barolo Margheria

"The 2010 Barolo Margheria comes across as quite compact at this stage but then again, it is a young Serralunga Barolo. Iron, graphite, smoke and crushed rocks seem to resonate off a core of expressive dark fruit in a muscular, implosive Barolo endowed with tremendous depth and intensity. With time in the glass the wine's inner perfume and sweetness begin to emerge, accompanied by expressive floral and savory notes that add tons of pure appeal. The 2010 is going to require considerable patience, but there is a lot to look forward to. Layers of chalk and limestone inflected minerality support to the building finish. The Margheria is aged entirely in cask, which among other things, means the malolactic fermentation is done the spring after harvest, later than the other Azelia's Barolos."

2010 Vietti Barolo Lazzarito

"Good full red. Musky strawberry, pungent raspberry, game and minerals on the enticing nose. Elegant, silky and juicy, with terrific cut and lift to the red berry and blood orange flavors. Showcases the energy of the 2010 vintage at its best; in fact, this makes the 2009 Lazzarito seem almost raisiny by comparison. The juicy, slowly mounting finish features suave tannins and a lingering suggestion of orange. This beauty is sexy already but has the spine to evolve positively in bottle for 15 years." -Stephen Tanzer
