"Lots of bramble and anise notes pump along, with blackberry and boysenberry accents chiming in. The juicy, focused finish features finely beaded acidity, letting a sweet tapenade element stretch out while the structure sits in reserve."

2010 Saint Cosme Cote Rotie

"Vivid purple. Pungent, spice- and floral-accented aromas of black and blue fruits and licorice, with a peppery topnote. Sappy, incisive and pure, offering intense black raspberry and boysenberry flavors that put on weight in the glass. Shows excellent clarity and power on the finish, which features silky tannins and zesty minerality."

2011 Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas

"The 2011 Cornas belies the vintage’s forward, mid-weight stereotype with its massive, deep and layer profile. Possessing brilliant minerality, as well as notions of dry aged beef, cracked pepper, forest floor and sweet black currants, this full-bodied beauty has a stacked mid-palate, big structure and masses of sweet tannin on the finish. The minerality is really something here and this is reminiscent of filling your mouth with granite pebbles. It’s a resounding success in the vintage and will deliver the goods for upwards of two decades."

2007 Guigal Cote Rotie Chateau d'Ampuis

"As I have mentioned before, the Cote Rotie Chateau d’Ampuis is a blend of some of the very best sites the Guigal family owns in Cote Rotie. This cuvee is aged 38 months in 100% new oak casks, and about 2,000 cases are produced. The component parts include the famed vineyards of La Garde, L’Enclos, Grande-Plantee, Pommiere, Pavillon, Le Moulin and more recently, La Viria, which I still believe will turn out to be Guigal’s fourth single vineyard Cote Rotie when Marcel and his son, Philippe, decide it can stand alone. A super effort, the 2007 reveals notes of black raspberries, ground pepper, lard, roasted coffee, herbs and cassis as well as hints of licorice and tapenade, and sweet tannin. It is one of the most aromatically complex Chateau d’Ampuis Cote Roties I have ever tasted. The silkiness of the tannins and the up-front forwardness of the wine suggest it should be drunk over the next 10-12 years." 92-94 pts, reviewed by Robert Parker.
