"Grasso’s 2006 Barolo Gavarini Vigna Chiniera is laced with racy, perfumed red fruit, flowers and minerals. The wine gains weight and depth in the glass as its energy and vibrancy take center stage. This is a supremely beautiful Barolo where expressive aromatics, generous fruit and silky tannins come together with unusual grace and elegance. Sweet, floral notes add a sense of lift on the finish. The 2006 is the best Gavarini since the 1989, and who knows if one day it might not match that legendary Barolo. Readers won’t want to miss the sublime 2006 Gavarini Vigna Chiniera."

2010 Cordero di Montezemolo Barolo Monfalletto

"The 2010 Barolo Monfalletto is a gorgeous wine (and a superb value) with a rich and opulent feel that wraps seductively over the palate. The wine imparts a long succession of aromas including cherry cola, licorice, mint and white truffle. 2009 Domenico Clerico Barolo Pajana

"The 2009 Barolo Pajana also shows supple softness and immediate richness. I love the energy and the pure tension. There’s a unique brightness or crispness to the fruit that so perfectly balances out those emboldened layers of oak, spice and tobacco. The style is modern and muscular but all that strength is delivered in a silken glove."

2009 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo

"The 2009 Barolo (aged three years in botte grande and one year in bottle) opens with a crystalline, ruby color and shows extreme focus and precision. Rosehip, forest berry, wild mint, lightly toasted pine nut, dried ginger and underbrush all appear on the ever-changing bouquet. The wine is extremely finessed and silky on the close with beautiful menthol freshness at the end. In Barolo tradition, fruit was normally sourced from many vineyards. The concept of single vineyards is relatively new. In keeping with tradition, this Barolo sees fruit from the Canubbi, San Lorenzo, Rue, and Rocche di La Morra vineyards."
