"The 2009 Barolo Pajana also shows supple softness and immediate richness. I love the energy and the pure tension. There’s a unique brightness or crispness to the fruit that so perfectly balances out those emboldened layers of oak, spice and tobacco. The style is modern and muscular but all that strength is delivered in a silken glove."

2010 Cordero di Montezemolo Barolo Monfalletto

"The 2010 Barolo Monfalletto is a gorgeous wine (and a superb value) with a rich and opulent feel that wraps seductively over the palate. The wine imparts a long succession of aromas including cherry cola, licorice, mint and white truffle. Barolo Monfalletto is aged in oak barrel of various sizes and provenances and boasts an impressive level of silkiness and complexity as a result."

2009 Azelia Barolo Bricco Fiasco

"The 2009 Barolo Bricco Fiasco is more subtle and bashful in the mouth but shows similar intensity on the nose. The expressive bouquet delivers dark fruit, plum, licorice, cola and tar. This wine sees a small percent of French oak, whereas the base Barolo is aged in botte grande."

2009 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo

"The 2009 Barolo (aged three years in botte grande and one year in bottle) opens with a crystalline, ruby color and shows extreme focus and precision. Rosehip, forest berry, wild mint, lightly toasted pine nut, dried ginger and underbrush all appear on the ever-changing bouquet. The wine is extremely finessed and silky on the close with beautiful menthol freshness at the end. In Barolo tradition, fruit was normally sourced from many vineyards. The concept of single vineyards is relatively new. In keeping with tradition, this Barolo sees fruit from the Canubbi, San Lorenzo, Rue, and Rocche di La Morra vineyards."
