"Black cherry, kirsch distillate, cedar, incense, iron filings, wet stone, and roasted meats and coffee represent a few of the immediate aromatic suggestions forced on this taster. In the mouth, it is similarly compelling, with an eruption of clear black cherry, cassis, and meat juices, faintly bitter notes of fruit skin and pungent herbal and mineral notes adding complexity. The texture is incipiently velvety, imposingly glossy, and a perfect cover for fine, abundant tannins. Spectacularly rich and reverberative in its multifaceted finish, this sensational wine deserves at least a decade of rest before re-opening."

2012 Comte de Vogue Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru

"Deep but translucent ruby. An exceptionally floral nose displays cool and airy aromas of raspberry, dark currant and plenty of spice nuances. There is an intense minerality to the medium-bodied flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration, all wrapped in a saline-inflected finish that flirts with austerity before rounding off. Lovely."

2012 Comte de Vogue Musigny Vieilles Vignes

"The 2012 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru is initially mild-mannered on the nose, unassuming at first but unfolding with each swirl of the glass to reveal scent of dark cherries, Dorset plum, blueberry and licorice. But it is very contained like the Bonnes-Mares, the bouquet strongly advising to return in a decade’s time. The palate is very well balanced with filigree tannins, brambly red berry fruit and a marine-influence from start to finish – hints of brine and seaweed; shucked oyster shell on the finish. This is a very accomplished, fascinating Musigny from de Vogue."

2012 Bernard Dugat Py Mazis Chambertin

"Rose petals, violets, anise and sweet red cherries lift from the glass in Dugat-Py's 2012 Mazis-Chambertin. The contours are refined, silky and polished throughout. This is a fabulous showing from a wine that is vibrant, crystalline and utterly breathtaking. Although the Mazis is quite floral and intensely aromatic, it also has plenty of depth and mid-palate pliancy."

"There are three barrels of the 2012 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru this year, which includes around 85% whole cluster fruit. Despite a touch of reduction, the floral nature of this grand cru shows through, violets and rose petals sprinkled over the intense dark berry fruit and minerals. The palate is very concentrated with intense black fruit. It offers a beguiling sense of symmetry and one of the most powerful finishes that you will find in this vintage. This is a true vin de garde – don’t touch for 15 years, but it will be a behemoth to behold."
