Type: Red Wine

Country: United States
Region: California, Napa Valley

"This is a dense, ruby/purple-tinged wine with full body, and despite the softness of the general vintage, Montelena has plenty of structure...The wine has sweet tannin in a broad, flavorful, concentrated style with plenty of black currant, licorice, and spice. The wine is beautifully textured, slightly more forward than most Montelena Cabernets tend to be. It is another beauty from probably the most consistent winery for Cabernet Sauvignon over the last three decades." Reviewed by Robert Parker.

2010 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon Estate

"The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is shaping up to be another beauty. Violets, freshly cut flowers, mint, spice box and plums all jump from the glass in this vivid, beautifully delineated Cabernet. The sense of energy and drive are pure 2010. Today, the 2010 is super-young, but it is immensely promising. I can't wait to taste this in another year, but I imagine it will still be an infant at age ten. A tiny splash of Cabernet Franc adds complexity to the Cabernet Sauvignon."

2009 Inglenook Rubicon

"A classy effort that is rich and layered, restrained and structured, showing fine tension between the dried currant, cedar, cigar box and anise flavors and the firm, fine-grained tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot."

2010 Staglin Cabernet Sauvignon

"The estate’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon bursts from the glass with juicy red berries, tar, asphalt, licorice, mint and violets. Firm yet well-integrated tannins frame the finish. Hints of mocha, blueberry jam and cloves resonate on the powerful, structured, saline-infused finish. The 2010 is sexy, explosive and striking. There is a level of nuance and pure class in the 2010 that elevates it to one of the finest and most promising wines of the vintage."
