"A tasty, opulent 2005 from proprietress Helene Garcin, this sexy wine exhibits a dense ruby/purple color followed by a sweet bouquet of licorice, black cherries, blackberries, oak, and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, opulent, fleshy, and disarming, it will drink well in 2-3 years, and should age for 12-15. By the way, I have recently begun sampling my 1998 Barde-Haut, which is just emerging from its adolescent stage. It, too, is a beauty!" -Robert Parker

2009 Chateau Pavie Decesse Saint Emilion

"Bottled the week of January 16 (a week before I tasted it), the 2009 Pavie Decesse (from a tiny 9-acre vineyard on the limestone slopes above Pavie) is an uncommonly fat, succulent, rich, 1,000-case cuvee with 14.3% alcohol. It boasts an inky/blue/purple hue along with notes of incense, spring flowers, roasted espresso, chocolate, licorice, blackberries and blueberries. Even though it is aged in 100% oak, the wood is virtually non-existent. An inky blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the wine exhibits a flawless integration of acidity, alcohol and tannin. This opulent, viscous, thick, juicy St.-Emilion will be accessible in 5-7 years and last for three decades."

"Gorgeous aromas of ceps and dark fruits with lots of forest fruit too. Love the nose o forest fruits. Incredibly deep. Full-bodied, with super chewy tannins. Powerful and rich with hints of wood. This is a powerful yet classic wine. I love the complexity to this—the balance. The density and compacted character to this is superb."

1995 Chateau Pavie Macquin Saint Emilion

"Intense blackberry aroma, with dark chocolate and vanilla. Full-bodied, with silky tannins and good fruit. Lots of wood on the palate still, but I appreciate the racy style."

1988 Chateau Beau Sejour Becot Saint Emilion

"Fabulous nose, with crushed berries, licorice and fresh mushroom. Full-bodied, with soft, succulent tannins and a velvety texture. Lots of fruit still, with an underlying complexity from long bottle-age. This will improve for many years to come. A generous and well-crafted wine. Much better than I remember." Tasted in 2008.
