"Bold and dark, this brawny wine shows beautifully evolved aromas of cured meat, leather, tar, cola and resin backed by candied fruit, pomegranate and crème de cassis. That extra muscle helps support the sharpness of the acidity, and plays a promising role in the wine’s overall aging potential."

2009 Tenuta Caparzo Brunello di Montalcino

"The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino is one of those wines that seemingly benefitted from the warm vintage. The style is rich and opulent and there is enough layered oak spice and tannin to support the softer nature of the fruit. Ripe cherry, blackberry and dark plum abound. My only note of hesitation is sparked by the mouthfeel that is slightly thinner and shorter than past vintages. This Brunello is aged in a combination of botte grande and smaller oak barrel. The wine is fleshed out, approachable and almost ready to drink now."

2009 Casanova Di Neri Brunello di Montalcino White Label

"The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino is an impressive and impeccable wine that delivers a slow and sensual progression on the palate. Along the way, it leaves a steady stream of ripe fruit, spice, tobacco, licorice and balsam herb that is both impactful and vibrant. The wine’s aromas are very well-delineated, clean and never color outside the lines. The textural fabric of the wine is velvety and rich, thanks to a long 43 months in oak."

2009 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova

"From vineyards in the southern part of the appellation, the 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova does show some of the hallmarks of the warm vintage. Compared to the base Brunello, the aromas here are slightly less delineated and you do get whiffs of overtly ripe raspberry and blackberry that intermingle with exotic tones of Asian spice, licorice and incense. In the mouth, the wine’s fabric is lush and rich with sweet tannins and opulent consistency. It needs a few more years to flesh out."
