Country: United States
Region: California, Napa Valley

"This offers the pure, high-toned, deeply concentrated aromas that are the hallmarks of this wine: ripe dark cherry, boysenberry, blackberry and plum fruit, with subtle earth, floral spice, forest floor and cocoa notes. The wine’s rich, juicy and mouthfilling flavors of dark cherry, boysenberry, cassis, plum and cedar acquire a pronounced trace of brambly spice tone on the long, savory finish. In its youth, this vintage is precociously forward, but its superb structure and deep, expansive fruit will help it to age at least a decade in bottle."

"This fine new release, with some bottle age, shows signs of subtle maturity. Aromas of mocha, cedar, dried currant and spice box follow through to a full body, This is well-built, with fine balance and good length."

2008 Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

"It’s easy to see why Silver Oak remains so popular with the restaurant crowd. It’s made in a more restrained style than many other Napa Cabs. There’s plenty of berry and currant fruit as well as oak, but it’s accompanied by tobacco and herbs that give the wine an earthiness. What the wine lacks in dazzle it more than makes up for in elegance and subtlety. Should develop well for at least a decade."

2005 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon Estate

"Complex aromas of currant, licorice, graphite, bitter chocolate, smoked meat, tobacco and brown spices. Began juicy, penetrating and quite youthfully unevolved, but aeration brought a suppler, rounder texture and more generosity to this impressively structured wine. Complicating notes of bitter cherry, menthol and minerals. This will require a good eight to ten years of aging but the substantial tannins are sweet and lush." Reviewed by Stephen Tanzer.
