Type: Red Wine
Varietal: Tempranillo
Country: Spain
Region: Ribera Del Duero

"Glass-staining ruby. Sexy, oak-spiced aromas of dark berry compote, cola and violet, with subtle vanilla and underbrush nuances. Broad and sweet on the palate, offering ripe blackberry and cherry-vanilla flavors and slow-mounting smokiness. The floral note comes back on the finish, which clings with impressive tenacity and focus. Shows good energy for a ripe vintage."

2012 Convento de Las Claras Tinto Fino

"A gem from the Ribera del Duero in Spain, which produces some of the best tempranillo wines in the world. The wine has deep, rich flavors of blueberry and cherry compote with touches of licorice and spice cabinet. Very velvety and lush. Drinks nicely the second day after opening, too."

"Saturated ruby. Smoky, expansive aromas of candied cherry, rose and pipe tobacco. Silky, sharply focused red fruit and floral pastille flavors pick up a spicy nuance with air and display impressive energy. Closes silky, sweet and very long, with fine-grained tannins adding shape."

2012 Finca Villacreces Pruno

"This blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon emerges from a vineyard situated adjacent to one of the famous vineyards utilized to produce Spain’s greatest red wine, Vega Sicilia. Made from relatively old vines, the 2012 Pruno is a sexy, opulent, voluptuously textured effort that spent 12 months in two-year-old French oak barrels. Reminiscent of a baby Vega Sicilia, it possesses a dense ruby/purple color as well as notes of high-class, unsmoked cigar tobacco, creme de cassis, licorice, graphite and spice box. Full-bodied, deep, velvety textured, lush and heady, at $20 a bottle, it is another sensational bargain from Eric Solomon." - Robert Parker

2009 Dominio de Atauta

"The 2009 Dominio de Atauta comes from 100-year-old pre-phylloxera vines in Valle de Atauta and is aged in 35% new French oak for 16 months. It has a tightly wound, perhaps slightly reticent bouquet that you feel will offer more five to seven years down the line. The palate is silky smooth with seamless tannins and beautifully assimilated oak. It is primal and a little surly on the finish, but this is excellent."
