"Mascarello’s 2008 Barolo is a wine of extraordinary elegance. A sweet, open bouquet leads to dark red fruit, mint, spices and licorice in this pretty, nuanced Barolo. The 2008 is all about detail and understated finesse. It boasts breathtaking purity in its fruit and fabulous overall balance. A textured, finely-knit finish leaves a lasting impression. The 2008 is very classic in style. It will require considerable patience, despite its deceptively medium-bodied structure. This is another dazzling wine from Maria-Theresa Mascarello."

2009 Revello Barolo Rocche dell' Annunziata

"Good deep red. Deep aromas of plum and mocha are complemented by smoky caramel oak and lifted by a floral note. Very ripe and plush but with good vinosity to the velvety flavors of plum, spices, tobacco and truffley underbrush. This subtly sweet, mouth-filling wine shows noble, thoroughly ripe tannins for the vintage. Finishes very long and thick, with a note of marzipan." -Stephen Tanzer

2008 Paolo Scavino Barolo Bric del Fiasc

"The 2008 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is incredibly fine in this vintage, probably because of the addition of a new Riserva from this vineyard into the lineup. Dark red fruit, flowers, mint and spices flow from this graceful, refined Barolo. It will be interesting to see where the 2008 goes from here. I can’t say the 2008 is a very typical Bric del Fiasc because it is more finesse than power, but it is a very beautiful wine just the same."

2009 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Cascina Francia

"The 2009 Barolo Cascina Francia is a stunning wine. Roberto did not make Monfortino in 2009, therefore that wine was declassified and added here. The results are truly spectacular. The wine shows the soft fullness that is characteristic of the vintage, backed by tight tannins that pull the wine together. Dark fruit, licorice, chopped herb, white truffle, tar and pressed rose form a united aromatic front."
