"The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is compelling from the very first taste. It boasts fabulous concentration and depth, with just enough tannin and aromatic complexity to balance some of the wine’s more overt leanings. Dark red cherries, flowers, licorice, mint and spices are layered into the big, dramatic finish. Hints of kirsch and rose petals linger in the empty glass. The 2007 is distinguished by an open, Pinot-like bouquet and a voluptuous personality."

2008 Castiglion del Bosco Brunello di Montalcino

"Bright red. Captivating aromas of candied red cherry, dried redcurrant, cinnamon and faded flowers. Bright, rich and dense, with flavors of superripe red cherry, sweet spices and sweet oak. Finishes peppery, clean and long. Very impressive wine, and so well balanced that you won't even notice the 15% alcohol. With a production of 80,000 bottles, there's also plenty of it to go around."

2009 Casanova Di Neri Brunello di Montalcino White Label

"The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino is an impressive and impeccable wine that delivers a slow and sensual progression on the palate. Along the way, it leaves a steady stream of ripe fruit, spice, tobacco, licorice and balsam herb that is both impactful and vibrant. The wine’s aromas are very well-delineated, clean and never color outside the lines. The textural fabric of the wine is velvety and rich, thanks to a long 43 months in oak."

2009 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova

"From vineyards in the southern part of the appellation, the 2009 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova does show some of the hallmarks of the warm vintage. Compared to the base Brunello, the aromas here are slightly less delineated and you do get whiffs of overtly ripe raspberry and blackberry that intermingle with exotic tones of Asian spice, licorice and incense. In the mouth, the wine’s fabric is lush and rich with sweet tannins and opulent consistency. It needs a few more years to flesh out."
