"The effect of the destemmer was significant on our 2011 Heritage Vines Zinfandel because it removed almost all of the stems. With this wine, our goal for the maceration was to aggressively extract during the first half of fermentation and then drain and press the wine off the skins prior to drying. This technique allowed us to coax out the depth of the ripe, racy fruit that lurks within Zinfandel grapes and also to avoid some of the roughness that can be leeched out of the skins at the end of fermentation. We employed the use of both French and American oak in the aging of this wine. Toast levels on these barrels were deep enough to impart chocolate and roasted coffee features into the finished wine."

A mouthwetting snap of acidity balances the round and ripe fruit, and the thin-skinned Zinfandel tannins propel the wine into an elegant and impressive big Pinot Noir style."

"In the glass there are aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, plum, chocolate, spice, black pepper and vanilla. There is mouth filling texture with spicy flavors of blueberry, black pepper, dark fruits and a long finish. Winemaker Kevin Hall notes that “this is a big wine”."

"This Zinfandel shows a bright, garnet red color with medium density. The nose is loaded with rich layers of spice, coconut, and brown sugar along with big fruit notes of plum, boysenberry, and hints of dried fruit as well. Beneath all that there is a rich but subtle earthliness reminiscent of hoisin. The palate opens smoothly with soft round tannins rolling across the tongue and a firm acid core, both working in harmony to establish the balance and structure of this wine. Ripe blackberry and bright strawberry flavors fill the mid-palate, all beautifully complemented by the nutty underlayer, and rounded out by the smoked meat notes on the finish."
