"The 2008 Montelig is a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Petit Verdot and 30% Carmenere aged entirely in new French oak for 25 months. The grapes come from the best parcels, which are said to produce particularly small grapes. It has a very intense bouquet of blackberry and cassis fruit shrouded in vanilla-y oak at the moment. It develops a peppermint tincture with aeration, the oak receding a little. The palate is medium-bodied with ripe black fruit infused with sage and bacon fat. The oak is nicely folded into the finish, although it does tend to render it a little predictable. Still, it is nicely composed and should evolve into an interesting Chilean red blend."
