"Lily-like perfume, sweet lime, and ripe apple on the nose and a wafting, buoyant, juicy palate lend the Bassermann 2009 Deidesheimer Paradiesgarten Riesling Kabinett considerably more charm and refreshment than possessed by its 2008 counterpart, even if this is still relatively simple and probably best enjoyed over the next 3-4 years."

Hints of herbal and gingery pungency, browned butter, black tea, and salt add complex savor to this Riesling’s luscious, glycerin-rich, and refreshing palate presence, noticeable sweetness managing to convey an uncanny sense of delicacy while acidity and extract free that sweetness from any tendency toward excess."

"The Kuhn 2009 Riesling trocken Jacobus represents impressive quality for an “entry-level” bottling, redolent of ripe peach and mirabelle wreathed in rowan and heliotrope; infectiously juicy while subtly glossy in texture; and finishing with exuberant, fleshy fruit, tinged by vanilla, peach kernel, and salt. This fine value – some of whose distinction is probably owed to the inclusion of higher-altitude fruit from the slatey Hallgartener Hendelberg – should remain delightful for at least 4-6 years."

"Apricot pit, papaya and a hint of clove on the nose and palate. Rich to the point of creamy, but given drive by insistent, juicy, ripe acidity. Expressive, crisp and impressively long, this is one of the great spatleses of the vintage."

"Pungent lavender, mint, sage, sea breeze, and crushed stone mingle with ripe pear in the nose of Bassermann’s 2009 Forster Pechstein Riesling Grosses Gewachs, whose shimmeringly interactive complexity on a firm, juicy palate ranges from fresh lemon through the aforementioned floral, herbal, and northerly orchard fruits to deep nut oil richness and coffee. This should be fascinating to follow for at least the coming decade, and while there is still something a touch austere about the overall impression conveyed, one has here also a fine example of elegance, vivacity, and clarity such as are possible in Grosses Gewachs format."
