Bonded and beautiful, this one is a classic. Big sweet butterscotch and red fruit on the nose along with solid spice. The taste holds anise, caramel, vanilla, and soft pepper. Finish is long with anise and vanilla fading softly together.

Best Buy BIB
Reviewed by: UpFront Chuck | May 20, 2016

Old Grand Dad BIB is the best buy going in bonded bourbons today, in my opinion. Others near this price range have not mainained their quality. OGD BIB is excellent straight up, and makes a good mixer as well. Doesn't quite rate "excellent" in taste, but better than "good. There's no star rating for "very good."

3 Stars can still be in your Bar!

Don't let the 3 star sway you, I have tried a lot of whiskeys, and you can't give them all a 5 stars. I would say 3 stars and higher is worthy. Recently I'm on a tasting kick, trying out bottles that are no more than $25. I was pleasantly surprised and will keep this one on my list. Nose: Oak, Spice and Caramel. A little forward on the Alcohol but don't fear it. It's taste is muted compared to the high weft of alcohol. Taste: Carmel, Spice, oak with a grain or grassy finish with a minty hint. Tried…

We bought a bottle for my father-in-law when we had a baby (old granddad, get it?). It ended up being pretty good, to the point where we get him one almost every Christmas. The bonded is definitely a big step up from the standard in terms of quality, taste, and complexity. A little on the sweet side, nice amount of bite, not too much smoke or oak. The price keeps creeping up, but that's the whiskey market these days, and it's still a pretty good value when compared to non-bonded younger whiskey or phony "craft" whiskey that doesn't have to…
