"Toffeed nuts, peat, spice, and creamy vanilla aromas. a round supple entry leads to a dry-yet-fruity medium-full body of honeyed toast, golden raisins, anise and other brown spices. Finishes with a sweet caramel and nut toast fade with a streak of iodine and peat." Reviewed by: Beverage Testing Institute

The Signature Islay
Reviewed by: Whiskycat | April 29, 2014

On the nose, salt air, with a smoky medicinal quality. Peat smoke pervades, with some vanilla/nougat in the background. On the palate, strong peat smoke, iodine, and oily salt water. The finish is smoky, with some seaweed, along with sweet toasted oats and charred wood.

This is a remarkable example of Islay peat-influenced malt whisky...the signature Islay malt at this price point. It may be used as a standard of comparison for all other Islay malts. Very well-balanced. It’s more than just peat-smoke. There are other flavors in the mix, making it complex and very memorable.

Laphroaig 10 year old 80 proof Color: golden brown Nose: big peaty smoke, iodine, seawater, brine, light hint of burnt sugar Taste: rich, smokey, tobacco, sweet-salty, campfire, full bodied but simple and easy to taste its parts Finish: satisfying and intense, stays with you, leaves you hungry for more It gets its flavors two ways: the maturing happens next to the Saltwater Ocean and gets into the wood as it matures; and when they dry the malt on the malt floors, they smoke it with dried peat to get it to germinate. you must try it at least once, you…
