Mamajuana is a drink exclusively from the Dominican Republic that is made by adding rum, red wine, and honey to a combination of twigs, bark, leaves and herbs. The taste is a unique combination of woody and herbal flavors, it is sweet to semi-sweet and normally the color is a deep brown/red. People normally drink it straight or on the rocks allthough recently more and more people use mamajuana in the preparation of cocktails. The alcoholic content of the original mamajuana is 30 percent (60 proof) which makes it more drinkable to people who find hard liquors like rum and whisky too strong. Also the fact that mamajuana is semi sweet makes it smoother to drink. On the other hand mamajuana still has sufficient alcohol to be considered a hard liquor.
