Macallan 12 Year Old Traditional

"The initial aroma is sweetish, winey and oaky; aeration allows the aroma to expand to include marzipan, treacle, molasses, honey, vanilla bean, cinnamon and cocoa butter. The palate entry is sweet, creamy and assertive; at midpalate the flavor becomes intensely nutty, buttery and bacon fat-like, with the beginnings of rancio. Remains one of Speyside’s standard-bearer 12 year olds." 90-95 pts.

I am a novice single malt scotch drinker, but my tastes run to the Glenfiddich brand of spirits. Usually, not quite as expensive as Glenlivet, and in my view, better. The Solera Reserve has a decent price for those on tight budgets, and it pays off with a very smooth dram or two. This particular scotch tastes wonderful, with pleasing notes of oak, straw and a little light fruit and is just so pleasant on the tongue. Not medicinal-tasting at all and no peat smokiness, which I do not care for A nice before or after dinner drink to sip…

Glenfiddich 15 Solera March 04, 2014
Reviewed by: Hawkeye

Nose - Honey, brown sugar, apple, raspberry jam, red grapes, vanilla, clove, liquorice, allspice, with the fruity/sweet aspects being more prevalent. Rather malty. Taste - Starts with honey and vanilla, developing in to the darker fruits (not in a heavy way), still with the honey and some brown sugar as well, before finishing on a slightly bitter charred wood note with clove, honey and fruit. Soft texture, quite smooth, easy drinking and pleasant, could stand to be at least 43% (if not more) though.
