"A seductive brininess and waves of oily peat-reek greet the olfactory sense. The palate entry finds a surprisingly buttery-creamy leaning along with the peat-reek; at midpalate the flavor becomes concentrated, oily, malty sweet, and only moderately peaty. Ends on a sweet malty note. Builds from stage to stage, each phase being better than the last. Best Buy." - 90-95 pts

On the palate, oily peat smoke, salt, pipe tobacco, and something like butter mixed with bacon grease (but not in a bad way). Perhaps a touch of vanilla, also. Finishes with smoky ash and salt, with a touch of pepper left on the tongue. The leather returns with perhaps a hint of citrus. This is more complex than I would have expected. It is not as "peat forward" as the south Islay malts, but…

A great standard Islay.

Color: Vinegar. Very light. Nose: Fresh! Peat, vanilla extract, and pine. Taste: Ginger, plum, malt, pickled okra, olive oil, and blue cheese. Bitter-sweet-umami. Finish: Bitter, with spice and smoke, creme, almond, and wormwood. Less "medicinal" than other Islays, very rounded and very good.
