"Golden amber color. Bold aromas of peat, iodine, baklava, and creme caramel follow through on a rich, satiny entry to a dry-yet-fruity medium-full body with layer of buttercream, dried fruits, pine cone ash, oat cereal, and sweet spice. Finishes with a long interplay of cream, spice, and iodine laced part. Impressive, different and fun."

"Off-dry malted barley and light toffee smells greet the olfactory sense along with flowery fragrances of heather, rose petal and pine. Entry features sweet grain and candied apricot tastes; the midpalate is mellow, malty, fruity (white raisins, apricots) and sophisticated. Ends on a buttery note. Remains the Speyside benchmark." 90-95 pts.

Macallan 12 Year Old Traditional

"The initial aroma is sweetish, winey and oaky; aeration allows the aroma to expand to include marzipan, treacle, molasses, honey, vanilla bean, cinnamon and cocoa butter. The palate entry is sweet, creamy and assertive; at midpalate the flavor becomes intensely nutty, buttery and bacon fat-like, with the beginnings of rancio. Remains one of Speyside’s standard-bearer 12 year olds." 90-95 pts.

On the nose, honey, vanilla, bakery spice, powdered sugar, and peat with light smoke. On the palate, creamy smooth, spicy vanilla and buttercream, a slight sweet fruit note, leather, and pipe tobacco, all surrounded in mild, earthy peat. The finish is long and rich…very tasty. Pipe tobacco and spiced fruit. A bit of peat returns in the finish and rounds out the flavors. The fruit notes on the palate appear with a teaspoon of water added. This is a superb single malt for the price. I haven’t had a better one for $29.99 (or $39.99), that’s for sure. I think…
