"More complex, citrus-led and sophisticated than recent bottlings, though the peat is no less but now simply displayed in an even greater elegance; a beautiful sea salt train to this; gentle oils carry on them a lemon-lime edge, sweetened by barley and a weak solution of golden syrup; the peat is omnipotent, turning up in every crevice and wave, yet never once overstepping its boundary; stunningly clean, the oak offers not a bitter trace but rather a vanilla and butterscotch edge to the barley. Again the smoke wafts around in a manner unique in the world of whisky when it comes to sheer elan and adroitness; like when you usually come across something that goes down so beautifully and with such a nimble touch and disarming allure, just close your eyes and enjoy…."

Ardbeg 10

The ultimate Islay malt, at a fair price at Binny's. A real mouthful and a delight thru-out. Bottled at 46% as all Whisky should be. For me, the finish is long with peat smoke and a taste of dirt (in a good way), and the smell of the sea. For me it is 90/100.

Filthy. In a good way.

Nose: Very fragrant power-peat and red meat. Taste: Slight burn, big compost-peat and earth. Finish: long! With sour melon rinds, grass, nice char smoke, and a slightly-off plastic note. I like this more every time I try it. Who knows, maybe next time this will be four-stars. If you like peat, meet Ardbeg.

The Superlative Islay Malt

On the nose, creamy vanilla, buttercream, pepper, medicinal iodine, intense peat smoke. On the palate, salt water, medicinal/iodine peat smoke, slight citrus peel, smoked fish, and vanilla extract. It finishes a bit tingly, with salty notes, coal tar, and with even more peat smoke.

This is classic Islay, with all the intense peat, smoke, and briny salt water you’d ever want. I especially like the fact that it is not chill filtered and is bottled at 46%. If there is caramel coloring in it, it can't be much. This is a very light-colored whisky (like a true Islay whisky ought to…

Ardbeg 10 Non chill-filtered 92 proof,- Color: very pale tan, no doubt uncaramelcolored. - Nose: Airy sea water, a smoked nectar sweetness, dry medicinal linen.- Taste: peated pears, salted nuts and smokey fruit, white pepper - Finish: in smooth, hot flash, trails off for a long while. Might be harsh to the uninitiated but a classic Islay Malt for sure 88/100
