News from the IPCPR Trade Show, Part I

Binny’s cigar guys George Eshou and Mike Trella recently spent a week in New Orleans at this year’s IPCPR (International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers) Trade Show. It sounds like a lot of fun, but for these two it was all business, sniffing out the latest from the world of cigars to bring back to you. George spent the week taking careful notes to let you know exactly what to expect from the Binny’s Humidor in the near future. He’s excited about so many new products that we’ll have to break this up over several blog posts, so watch for more soon. From George:

Alec Bradley Tempus Maduro

Last year Alec Bradley introduced a very small run of Tempus Magistri Maduros, only producing around 800 boxes with a maduro wrapper. Due to popular demand they have put this maduro leaf on the Tempus as a regular production cigar. The new Tempus maduro cigars use the exact inner components as the original Tempus cigars but have a Mexican cover leaf fermented in an old world fashion – A rare technique.

La Aroma De Cuba “Mi Amor”

Ashton has introduced another line of La Aroma De Cuba cigars called “Mi Amor.” Blended and manufactured by Jose “Pepin” Garcia at his My Father factory in Esteli, Nicaragua, the new Mi Amor uses Nicaraguan filler and binder components that are covered with a special Maduro wrapper grown in Mexico’s renowned San Andreas valley. Mi Amor will come in five medium bodied sizes. Keep an eye out for the newly designed boxes.

C.A.O. La Traviata Maduro

The original La Traviata was received extremely well by cigar lovers, so this year C.A.O. has introduced a maduro version that uses a Broadleaf wrapper grown in Ecuador. The inner components and strength are the same on both blends, but the new wrapper creates a totally different flavor profile. The new maduro comes in three sizes: Divino, Intrepido, and Radiante. This should be another big hit for C.A.O.

Aganorsa Leaf

The parent company of Casa Fernandez and the company that supplies us with the tobacco for our Marca Binny’s cigar is announcing a new medium bodied smoke blended to perfection with the talents of Arsenio Ramos. Mike and I agreed that this was a great blend. Available in three sizes, Robusto, Torpedo, and Toro, this is a must try.

Avo Heritage
With the exception of a handful of limited edition releases, Avo is known for producing cigars on the milder side. The new medium to full bodied Avo Heritage is unlike any of their regular production cigars. It uses an Ecuadorian sun grown wrapper, the same wrapper used on last year’s limited edition release (LE 09) with Dominican filler and binder tobaccos. All four sizes Churchill, Robusto, Short Robusto, and Toro should grab your attention and palatte.

Cusano It’s a Boy/ It’s a Girl

For years the biggest request we heard was that people want a better cigar for this special occasion. This year Cusano has produced their very popular (and very good!) Cusano 18 Robusto with a second band that announces the birth of your child. We’re excited to offer a cigar worthy of this important day.

E.P. Carillo

Ernesto Perez Carillo introduced his core line simply named E.P. Carillo. This is a very complex and well balanced, medium bodied smoke, compiled using an Ecuadorian wrapper along with Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos.

E.P. Carillo Edicion Limitada 2010

Along with the company’s core line, Ernie also introduced a limited edition cigar that will blow your mind. The E.P. Carillo Edicion Limitada 2010 has a production of only 10,000 cigars. It is medium to full bodied and is covered with a gorgeous Brazilian Maduro wrapper. The combination of the Brazilian wrapper along with the selected Nicaraguan and Dominican tobaccos used in this blend create a flavor profile unique to its own. We purchased 20% of the total production, 200 boxes, and we anticipate them to sell by the box. Mike and I both agreed that this was not only the best cigar introduced at this years trade show but possibly the best cigar to hit the market in at least the past five years. This is an amazing smoke!

Kristoff

While Kristoff did not introduce any new blends, they did introduce a new size on all five existing blends. The Kristoff Corona brings out flavors not typically found in the four other sizes. The focus in the corona size is to focus more on the wrapper, and the Kristoff Corona is simply rich. If you are a Corona smoker, you’re going to love these.
