It’s called the Coravin, and you can get it at Binny’s. If you’re already in the know, then you’ll be excited to learn that Binny’s is pretty much the only retailer anywhere between New York and California where you can buy this thing. Check it out on binnys.com.
If you’re not in the know, then you’re probably wondering what kind of device famed wine critic Robert Parker would refer to as:
“The most transformational and exciting new product for wine lovers
that has been developed/invented in the last 30+ years.”
Holy cow, right? What could this amazing device be?
It’s a “Wine Access System,” meaning it allows you to pour wine one glass at a time from a bottle without removing the cork. That means you can taste your wine without exposing it to oxygen. See how it’s evolving without committing to drinking the whole bottle! Obviously, our interest was piqued.
It works by inserting a thin, hollow needle through the foil and cork. Don’t worry, the cork will reseal after you remove the needle. The system injects the harmless inert gas argon into the bottle. Once it’s pressurized, wine flows out the needle and into your glass.
True story: We couldn’t wait to try it out for ourselves, so we bought one online before it was even available to us. One of the Binny’s wine buyers grabbed an older bottle of Leoville Poyferre (was it the ’95 or the ’96?) that was probably ready to drink. But how would we know without cracking the bottle? Coravin to the rescue. After the quick insertion of the Coravin needle, we all had a taste of this aged, delicate wine. Super cool.
At first, the Coravin was only available in high-end restaurants. Now, it’s only available online and at select retailers. And Binny’s is thrilled offer this innovative product. Check it out on binnys.com.
