The Class Act of St. Emilion

Binny’s Lincoln Park was lucky to host Stephan von Neipperg last night during a seminar and wine tasting. A class act, Mr. Von Neipperg stood at the check-in to the entrance of the newly unveiled cellar seminar room and greeted and talked with all 45 lucky guests as they came in….

Von Neipperg is the owner of six esteemed Bordeaux estates, mostly in the St. Emilion area. He carries the title of Count of the Holy Roman Empire, and his winemaking lineage going back centuries.

Stephan’s approach is to use meticulous winemaking practices while letting the real character of each estate shine through. Guests were treated to multiple wines from Clos Marsalette (his only estate in Pessac-Leognan), Ch. d’Aiguihle, Clos de l’Oratoire, Ch. Canon la Gaffeliere and the tiny 12-acre gem of the empire La Mondotte 2006. Parker called it ‘a candidate for the wine of the vintage’ and gave it 97 points. While it was a show-stopper, his other wines drew as much attention from our guests for their quality and value in the world of Bordeaux.

Stephan added Binny’s to the UGC North American Tour. After seeing thousands of Bordeaux fans in Montreal, DC, New York, Miami, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and San Francisco, it was one last stop, at Binny’s Lincoln Park, before heading home to Bordeaux.
