The Whiskey Hotline: Casa Maestri Tequila Blanco Flask

Tagged:

With the weather warming up, its hard to beat a crisp, clean, citrusy blanco tequila. Casa Maestri produces many different tequila brands out of their distillery (NOM-1438 for you tequila geeks at home) but this one in particular caught our attention with it’s added value, a flask! Not just any flask, but a 1.75 liter flask. Not only is the tequila great, but since the flask goes to 11, we mean 1.75, this is not a deal to pass on.

Whiskey Hotline: Oola Waitsburg Bourbon Whiskey

Tagged:

This Seattle distillery was founded in 2010 and has been consistently delivering quality and taste ever since. Whether it’s whiskey, vodka, or gin this is a distillery that should be on your radar. Waitsburg is a 4-grain bourbon (corn, wheat, rye, and barley) and is full of depth. Lots of classic rye spiciness on the nose with an unmistakably creamy wheat mouthfeel. Waitsburg starts its life in 10-gallon barrels before being transferred to more traditional 53-gallon barrels for extended aging. It’s youthful and fresh, but without all the excessive oak you usually get from small barrels.

Celebrate America’s Signature Holiday with America’s Signature Whiskey: Rye

Tagged:

Bourbon may officially be America’s spirit, and the 4th of July our celebration of independence, but two important traditions existed at least as early, if not before. Thanksgiving Day and Rye Whiskey. In the early years of American whiskey production, rye was the dominant style, especially in the east, eventually supplanted by the sweeter, rounder and easier to produce bourbon. As you give thanks, raise a glass of the spirit that shaped our whiskey tradition.

Binny’s Handpicks from Oppidan

Tagged:

Oppidan is located in Wheeling, Illinois, just outside of Chicago. They are incorporating a Solera technique with bourbon, and also producing a beautiful rye. At the Whiskey Hotline, we love young rye done right. We’ve also been finding whiskey from smaller barrels that taste much older than you would think. We were fortunate enough to sit down with the team from Oppidan a few months ago and selected 3 gorgeous ryes and 2 bourbons. These are all bottled at cask strength, and well worth seeking out.

Bourbon Heritage Month 2016

Tagged:

Why does bourbon get a whole month? The US Senate declared September “Bourbon Heritage Month” back in 2007. The bill passed with unanimous consent, and calls for consumers who enjoy bourbon to celebrate the family heritage, tradition and longstanding legacy that the bourbon industry contributes to America and the world. Whether you enjoy this classic American spirit on the rocks, neat, or in your favorite cocktail, let us know how you’re celebrating. We plan to celebrate Bourbon Heritage Month this September with four of our favorite handpicked bourbons.

Caribou Crossing Single Barrel Canadian Whisky

Tagged:

In another Whiskey Hotline first, we’re proud to announce our handpicked casks of Caribou Crossing. When this single barrel Canadian whisky debuted a few years back, it quickly became one of our favorites in the category. A Canadian whisky for the bourbon drinker, slightly fuller bodied than others with firm rye spice notes and a heavy dose of vanilla. Our single casks bring out the best of these flavors. Both are delicate and elegant, easy drinking and well structured, quality Canadian whiskies.

Crisp, complex, and refreshing, gin is an adaptable spirit showcasing a broad range of flavors: from citrus to pine to spice and many others. Just as versatile as vodka, with the added bonus that it isn’t vodka, gin is the perfect cocktail base to beat the heat. Here are some of our local favorites in this week’s Whiskey Gin Hotline.
