New Brewery to Binny’s: Milwaukee Brewing Co.

Next week, the Milwaukee Brewing Co. will be debuting at Binny’s.  Just about every Binny’s will be carrying their variety 12-packs, a package that will be exclusive to our stores. Many Binny’s stores will also carry 6-packs from the Wisconsin based brewery (the 6-packs pictured at the bottom are the ones Binny’s will carry).  The variety packs will feature “6 different beers x2. Our flagship Louie’s Demise Amber Ale, Love Rock Vienna Style Lager, Pull Chain Pale Ale, Polish Moon Milk Stout, Hop Happy IPA, and Booyah Saison. Or, maybe something from the brewer’s secret stash.”  Here are some tasting notes on the brews:

Love Rock Vienna Style Lager – This type of lager beer has a subtle malt sweetness, balanced by the earthy tones of noble German Hallertauer hops.

Hop Happy IPA – “Brewed with three different kinds of hops, this IPA is balanced by the oats added to the mash. The oats not only add an unexpected sweetness, but also a heavier mouthfeel.”

Polish Moon Milk Stout – “This pitch black stout is teaming with rich roasted malt and coffee flavors. The addition of milk sugar tames these intense flavors with a silky sweetness. A very easy drinking, full bodied beer.”

Booyah Saison – “Complex flavors and aromas come from a variety of sources. Barley malt and wheat help create a smooth body and attribute a pleasant golden hue while the addition of malted rye and oats brings out a solid earthy flavor. Czech Saaz Hops help create a citrus nose.  What makes this beer truly special is the Saison Ale yeast strain used to ferment this beer. The subtle hints of tangerine, peach and licorice are the hallmarks of this particular yeast.”

Louie’s Demise Amber Ale – “Our flagship brand; this medium bodied amber ale starts with a rich malt flourish thats kept in perfect balance by a smooth hop finish. This MBC original is similar to a German style malt beers.”

Pull Chain Pale Ale - “The Pull Chain Pale Ale is a fusion of English and American pale ale styles, with bitterness derived for an unusual and innovative hop schedule in the recipe. American cascade hops and British East Kent Goldings account for Pull Chains citrus and earthy flavors and aromas. Theyre softened by malty undertones.”

Milwaukee Brewing Co. Founder Appearing at Binny’s on Tuesday

Earlier today we posted that the beers of Milwaukee Brewing Co. will be appearing at our stores next week.  Below is the Bio of Jim McCabe, Founder and Owner of Milwaukee Brewing Company.  Jim will be hosting a meet and greet tasting this Tuesday from 5-8 at our Lakeview store on Clark Street.

Jim McCabe, founder and owner of the Milwaukee Brewing Company, opened our first brewpub, the Milwaukee Ale House, in 1997.  After graduating from Marquette University in 1987, Jim started homebrewing in his farmhouse in the Milwaukee suburb of Cedarburg.  One of his recipes was Louies Demise, an Amber Ale that would become the flagship beer and best seller of the Milwaukee Brewing Company.  In a time where Milwaukee was predominantly known as a lager town, Jim decided to open up the Milwaukee Ale House in the Third Ward in Milwaukee in 1997.  Ales were a popular style on the West Coast, and Jim was one of the first ale brewers to appear in Milwaukee.

Demand for the beers of the Ale House soon grew throughout the region and in November of 2007 Jim opened the doors of the Milwaukee Brewing Company, a 50 bbl brewhouse and packaging facility located on 2nd Street in the Walkers Point area of Milwaukee.  In 2010 Jim and Milwaukee Brewing Company were the first Wisconsin craft brewery to brew and can their own beer.  As one of Wisconsins fastest growing breweries Jim is still active in creating and helping shape the beers from Milwaukee Brewing Company.

Coming to Binny’s Next Week: Gulden Draak 9000

From Brouwerij Van Steenberge -

An exceptional, complex taste sensation with a deep, amber color. An ode to the city of Ghent – the golden dragon standing guard atop the belfry.

25 years after becoming one of the most recognized and successful beers in the United States, Gulden Draak gets a sibling, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple.

Gulden Draak 9000 Quad has an extremely rich and complex taste sensation with a rich, luxurious beer head. The sweet caramel touches and dark color, however, are still reserved for the Gulden Draak triple.

The new recipe, based on 3 different varieties of malt that are added in a volume 4 times the content of lager, provide the Gulden Draak 9000 with a deep rich amber color and a fruity, spicy scent. Together with the smooth and malty sweet taste, this sensation ensures that Gulden Draak 9000 has a wonderfully accomplished bouquet.

Just like the other specialty beers of Brewery Van Steenberge, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple is a secondary fermented beer. A special wine yeast is used for the secondary fermentation, which contributes to the grandiose taste. At 10.7% ABV, I think you would agree.
