Binny's 767 Golf by Kristoff

767 Golf Binny’s Exclusive by Kristoff 5×44

Its getting to that time of year where we pull the golf clubs out of storage and dust off the winter cobwebs on our swings. Oddly enough this cigar has nothing to do with the sport, but a reference to the very first place Binny’s had a humidor. 767 Golf is the address of the very first Binny’s Beverage depot as we know them today and the history behind our humidors starts there. This corona was made for us by the fine folks at Kristoff cigars and is an exemplary example of a premium cigar. Whether you’re going to hit a bucket of balls or relaxing on the porch the 767 golf has you covered.

A Visit From Olivier Krug

Olivier Krug’s presentation resonated with me early when he spoke of pairing my two passions, music and wine. “Music is important to Krug” he said, “The experience is about what you feel”. I’ve always thought of my love of wine and my love of music separately, but it was enlightening to hear him speak passionately about intertwining both. Music proved an especially apt metaphor as he presented his four wines. The first three were all top notch wines that any Champagne house could claim as a tete de cuvee. But not Krug, whose non-vintage Grand Cuvee enjoys pride of place. Compared to the first three, the Grand Cuvee is a harmonious whole, with the other three sounding a strong note.

Wine Hotline Hits the Road: Margaux

“We are not lost,” she said. “I know exactly where we are.”

Margaux

I was on a bicycle in the middle of Margaux. A few of us had stopped for a photo and lost the rest of our group. Marie Helen of Brane Cantenac was my guide, and she assured me we would reconnect. “They are probably headed to Chateau Margaux.” I nodded and gleefully started peddling. A few minutes later, we coasted down the driveway to one of the most recognizable wineries in all the world. I didn’t mind being stranded. We unfortunately didn’t taste the famous first growth that day; but soon after we reconvened with our colleagues and continued our rainy but scenic adventure. In spite of the persistent clouds, we circled through vineyards and made brief stops at about a dozen other chateaux including Palmer, Rauzan Segla, and Lascombes. These are gorgeous, impeccable properties worth a visit, although I might recommend you drive instead.

Celebrating National Saison Day!

Tagged:

Of all the beer styles brewed toady, few are open to as much interpretation as the saison. Saisons are highly carbonated and refreshing pale ales that were originally brewed by Belgian farmers in order to entice seasonal farmhands or “saisonniers” to sign on for summer work. Yeast plays a big role in their flavor profile and while most are brewed with strains that produce highly aromatic and spicy flavors, some also incorporate wild yeast strains such as Brettanomyces which can impart some earthy funk. So raise a toast to this classic style with one of these refreshing favorites on #NationalSaisonDay!
