This is one of my favorite speciality beers, even with the pricing keeping it from being one I enjoy very often. You can smell and taste the sugary bourbon flavors imparted by the barrel and even get a little of that char flavoring. The genius in this offering is that the ale they use is rather muted (not bad, just low-key), which allows it to showcase the barrel aging. A contrast to this would be something like Rocky's Revenge by Tyranena (an excellent beer in its own right) that ages a big brown ale. Rocky's Revenge retains more beer attributes…

This is my first time trying this one, pricey but you get what you pay for. This ale has amazing flavor and beautiful vanilla notes and a great finish.

Stumbled onto this at a restaurant - and tried a taste and ordered it after dinner the next time in. Very smooth sippable beer. Not hoppy at all. You can taste the wood and the bourbon. I have nothing to compare it against - the ABV is not overpowering - not as strong as you would taste in a Matilda which lets you know the alcohol is there.
